I created a Google Charts visualization for the four major cryptocurrency exchanges using a cron task to connect with the trading API’s at mtgox.com, exchange.bitparking.com, and btc-e.com every hour.

The blue Heikin Ashi candlesticks show noise-filtered price movement (measured along the 1st column of labels) by time (bottom row of labels) over an orange wick-length volatility indicator and red discussion-volume line. Volume is represented by an open or closed grey bar, labelled on the inner column of numbers.

The Ask depth is drawn in green and the Bid depth in red for the past 10 days (newest data is darker; older data is lighter), with the volume required to move the price in either direction listed below. The black line is a time-independent mirrored Renko chart used to identify possible support & resistance values. Average price movement for Hourly (H), Daily (D), Weekly (W), and Monthly(M) periods are displayed with colored circle indicators.

The charts are available at: http://bellcreativestudio.com/charts (coincharts.bit)

I absolutely LOVE working closely with our clients. I value their input, and always try to deliver exactly what they want (even though sometimes what they want and what they need are two different things – as demonstrated so eloquently in this video).

Have you posted your Soundcloud music on your WordPress website and then noticed later, much to your frustration, that it’s not showing up on your iPhone, iPad, etc? Here’s how to get Soundcloud, WordPress, and mobile devices to play nicely together…

On Soundcloud, click the SHARE button above your track.
* In the popup window, click CUSTOMIZE PLAYER. (On the bottom, right corner).
* Click the HTML5 tab.
* Using the color picker, select the color for your “play” button.
* Copy the widget code.
* Paste this code on your [WordPress] site.
Tah-dah! It’s as easy as that!

Here’s a Christmas tune that Linwood produced/arranged with lovely vocalist (and dear friend) Cathi Muckle, that demonstrates how well it works.

Have you heard about the new Lytro Light Field camera? It captures the color, intensity, and direction of all the light in the field, at once. Instantly. This enables you to focus and refocus the image after you’ve taken the shot! Yes, AFTERWARDS. Can you imagine?! At $400, it’s a bit pricey for a fun little gadget, but…it’s oh, soooooo cool!

Here’s are some interesting visual examples of how you can adjust images taken by a “light field camera” AFTER you’ve shot it.

NOTE: Click on different areas of the screen to change the focal point.

Google has taken the best features of “the other” social networking platforms and created a new/improved version that will rock your world! It’s like Facebook + Twitter + Skype + a whole lot more! Ok, I can hear you naysayers out there whining, “But I already belong to Facebook, and I rarely use Twitter. The last thing I need is to join another social network.” After you check this out, I’m pretty sure you’ll see why over 20 million people have already jumped on board…

OK, now that you’ve got a general idea of what it’s all about, let’s take a closer look…

CIRCLES

“Circles” make it easy to manage your various groups of circles of friends, family members and acquaintances and keep them separate from each other.(A person can be added to more than one circle.) This allows you to read and share content with either everyone or just a specific group (circle) of people. For example, you may only want to see what your close friends are doing and saying right now, and not those “others” who have asked to be your friend but you don’t really know all that well, and could care less what they are up to. And you may only want to share a photo that you snapped of Uncle Bob snoozing/drooling with your circle of family members and not your business associates. Or you may only want to talk about a wild party you went to and share some videos you took of it with your circle of friends and not (heaven forbid) your parents, grandparents or business associates. With Google+ it’s a snap!

HANGOUT

“Hangout” is a very cool feature. It allows you to do a group video conference with up to 10 people, all at once! So, if you and your best friends don’t have time to drive across town to get together for a cup of coffee or a glass of wine – or you and your business associates want to have a quick pow-wow meeting in the evening – now you can do it virtually. Talk about a convenient way to do a study group, or a book club, or teach a digital painting class!

Recent additions/Changes:

HANGOUT WITH EXTRAS

Now you can share your screen (or sketchpad, or document) with all the others in the group, and they can view what you’re working on in real time!

SEARCH

When you do a “search” for people, information, etc., you can click “Save this search” (located just below the search text field). This will place a bookmark on the left column of the page, just below “Stream.” (This feature replaced SPARKS, for those of you whostarted using Google+ when it was in Beta.)

***

I love the fact that much like Twitter, with Google+ you can add people that you don’t know to a circle, and they can add you. (And you’re not limited to squeezing your message into 160 characters or less.) It’s a great way to network and build new relationships. Remember, each of you can only view streams that are shared with each other intentionally via, which “circle(s)” you select when you post something; no one can see info that’s shared with just your Friends, Family, etc. (And no one can see which circle you’ve placed them in.)

I love the fact that I can go back at any time to edit your posts…

I love the fact that you can create a page for your business…

I love the fact that I can choose to view just the updates (of your Friends, Family, Forum members, etc via selecting their Circle) that you are interested in seeing right now…

And I love the fact that I can do screen sharing with clients and show them how to get around their new website (blog, add photos, videos, etc) from my screen OR theirs!

HOW TO GET A PERSONALIZED GOOGLE+ URL:

Trying to remember a Google+ URL like https://profiles.google.com/u/0/116254790028013746926 is next to impossible. Fortunately, you can shorten it.

Open your Google+ settings. Go to Profile and Privacy. On the right column, where it says “[your name] – Google Profile,” locate the long strong of numbers right after “Google.com/” (in the green link). Copy just the 21 digit string of numbers at the end of it, and then go to http://www.gplus.to. Here you can choose a Google+ nickname between 3 and 25 characters long, which will direct users to your Google+ Profile.

Communication technology has sure come a long way since 1982!  It’s been evolving and growing at warp speed ever since. So naturally, the browsers that we use to “surf” this internet must be constantly updated to keep up with the changes.

Do I need to update my internet browser?

Yes! For one thing, you will have a more enjoyable online experience. Your internet will run faster/smoother/better, and you’ll be able to play with all the hot, trendy, creative features found on uber-cool sites, like ours. But more importantly, with each release, new security measures are in place to protect your computer against known viruses, spyware, malware (malicious software), and creepy intruders who have figured out how to get into the older versions and can wreak havoc by snooping around in your computer. This is why it’s imperative to keep your browser up to date!

How do I know what version I’m using?

Launch your browser. Go to the TOOLBAR, click on [the NAME OF YOUR BROWSER], and then click ABOUT [browser].

As of 09/17/11, these are the versions you should be running:

GOOGLE CHROME: 14.0.835.163
Mac: http://www.google.com/chrome
PC: http://www.google.com/chrome?platform=win&hl=en
System Requirement: Mac OS X 10.5.6 or later, Intel processor/ Windows XP SP2, Windows Vista, and Windows 7

INTERNET EXPLORER: 9
PC: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/internet-explorer/downloads/ie
Requirements: Windows Vista SP2 (Service Pack Two) or Windows 7

MOZILLA FIREFOX: 6.0.2
Mac/PC: http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all.html
System Requirement: Mac OS X/Windows

SAFARI: 5.1
Mac/PC: http://www.apple.com/safari/download/
System Requirement: Mac OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.8/Windows XP SP2, Windows Vista, or Windows 7

IMPORTANT NOTE: Be sure to backup your computer before updating your browser – or any software! I’ve never had anything go awry when doing this, however it’s always best to play it safe. Remember, it’s not a matter of Will my computer crash someday? It’s WHEN will my computer crash? It WILL crash eventually. And when the day comes that you can’t turn the computer on and you realize it’s completely and utterly KA-PUT, how freaked out will you be?  2 terabyte external harddrives are very affordable these days. So, if you don’t have a backup drive, go buy one now and get into the habit of backing up your data routinely!

Is your website mobile-friendly?

If your response to this question is “hrmmmm…” chances are, you’re among the 79% of business owners who haven’t kept up with times! Simply having a website isn’t enough these days. If your website isn’t viewable on smartphones, iPads and other mobile devices, you’re probably missing out on a whole lot of business.

Mobile searches have grown by 400% in the past year!

Here are some interesting statistics….
* For many items, one in seven searches are now mobile.
* 1/3 of consumers use mobile devices to find local vendors.
* Over 85% of mobile devices will be able to browse the internet by next year.
* One quarter of mobile web users will rarely, if ever, use a laptop or desktop computer to access the internet. For them, it’s all mobile.
* Over 300 million smartphones were sold worldwide in 2010 – up almost 75% from the year before.
* For the first time in history, more smartphones are being sold than PCs!

Are you spending time and energy  - hopefully not any money – on SEO (search engine optimization) for a site that isn’t even viewable to a huge segment of (mobile) consumers?

I was talking to a client the other day about a jingle that we’re producing for him. Naturally, I asked if he had a website. It was a typical eCommerce site with coupons and price comparison specials on it. What he didn’t realize, was that his entire site was designed in Flash. So, he paid close to $2,000 for a website that isn’t viewable by his targeted consumers, AND he has to pay his web guy every time he wants to make updates to this site. (groan)

This is why I’m such an advocate for using WordPress (software) to design and build websites! And I’m not alone. Over 25 million people agree with me, and have used WordPress to build beautiful, professional looking websites. It’s the ideal tool for managing a business site because it’s intuitive, easy to navigate, there are thousands of free plugins that can be used to make it uniquely you, SEO is a breeze (Google loves WordPress websites), it’s mobile-friendly, and once it’s launched, the new owner can slip into the driver’s seat, take over the wheel and GO, man, GO!

I had so much fun working with Jerry and “dad” on the artwork for their new album, “Mis Raices” (my roots).

COVER PHOTO:  I snapped this photo one day, as Jerry was sitting on the floor in my office, telling me the most heartwarming story about the guitar he was holding in his hands. Vicente Romero, a famous Flamenco dancer, bought it for him (in 1970 when he was 14) from Julio deLos Reyes, a revered flamenco guitarist whom Jerry idolized. Years later, being young and impulsive, he sold the guitar to Augustine “Tiko” Ramirez  at a Mariachi show in Santa Fe for $125.00, his old Mexican guitar, and his mariachi sombrero!

“Well, a few years ago, I decided to re-dedicate myself to the art form, and also decided to find out what had become of this guitar that haunted my dreams… literally. It took a year of many phone calls, emails, etc., and I finally found Tiko in Phoenix, working as a strolling troubadour in a Mexican restaurant in Scottsdale, Arizona. I went down with an empty guitar case, and some money, and brought it back, 33 years after selling it to him! It took me a year to restore the guitar to the condition it is in now. I found the sombrero that was part of the deal and mailed it back to him with a video of myself playing the guitar after it was restored. Tiko cried and told me that the guitar was where it belonged, and that he had often felt like he had taken advantage of me when I was a kid because he knew the value of the guitar.”

As Gilbert and Jerry and I were discussing what we could do for the “Mis Raices” album cover, I showed this photo to Gilbert. His face lit up the moment he saw it. He shouted, “That’s IT! Look at the emotion in his face! You can just feel how much music means to him and speaks to his heart…. it’s perfect.”

Here are a few photos I snapped of Jerry and Gilbert rehearsing:

And here’s my very favorite photo from this shoot. I absolutely LOVE how this one came out!

GILBERT LOPEZ, 2011

JERRY: “I’ve talked about doing this project for many years. It’s a real departure from the R&B Funk Jazz Salsa stuff I’ve done in the past. It felt great returning to my musical roots! All the songs except for “Dejem Que me Emborache” are songs written or co-written by my father Gilberto Lopez. The majority of the songs date back to the 1960’s when my father was a guard in the “tower” of the New Mexico state penitentiary. The others were written not long after that.”

“Mis Raices” is now available through Jerry’s website: http://www.jerrylopez.com

It was such a pleasure designing this website for him!

Although “blogging” has been around for quite a few years, we still have a lot of people who ask us (usually in a hushed whisper), “What exactly IS a blog?  Quite honestly, a blog is different things to different people. For some, a blog is sort of like a public diary or journal. It’s a place to share photos, videos, recipes, music, poetry, artwork and intimate thoughts with friends, family members, and anyone else who cares to read and “follow” (subscribe to) it. Some use a blog to voice their highly opinionated views on politics, technology, and current events, much like a newspaper or magazine columnist would do (but without censorship). Others use a blog to market and promote their products and services. Regardless of how it’s used, a blog enables you to build relationships with people; it allows them to get to know you.

“Ok! I’m ready to start blogging. Where do I begin?”

1. Choose a (domain) name and register it.
Coming up with a name for a blog is easy – finding one that’s not already taken is challenging! Why? Because it’s a world-wide web! So, make a (long) list of names that you’d like to have. Then CLICK HERE  and go to GoDaddy and see which ones are available. (They are having a special right now. You can register a domain name for only $7.49!  See the orange banner above where you type the name.) If you can, try to get a “.com” name, rather than a .net, .info, .biz, etc. And try to avoid using dashes and hyphens! A URL like: www.lalala-this_that.net is nearly impossible for people to remember. Chances are, they’ll end up on someone else’s site by mistake. When you find a good name that’s available, grab it quick, before someone else does!

2. Get Webhosting
Did you know that you can host your own website? HostGator is having a special right now on single domain hosting. It comes with unlimited disk space and unlimited bandwidth for only $3.96/mo! CLICK HERE to learn more about it.

3. Decide on the type of blog/website you would like to have.
Our most popular request these days is for WordPress themed websites. They’re perfect for bloggers (AND businesses, too) because once we’ve designed your site and launched it, you can take it over and manage it from there. We’ll show you how to blog, add photos/videos, and install plugins/widgets. And there are hundreds of them for you to explore! You can add eCommerce tools, forms, calendars, music players, photo galleries and more. Fun, fun, fun!

The Jupiter 80 is creeping it’s way into more and more projects lately. What a wonderful synth it is. It feels like an instrument rather than something to play preset sounds with. You have to get your hands a little dirty and go under the hood and program and tweak the sounds that you need for the given situation, but that’s why I fell in love with synths in the first place.  It’s a welcomed addition to my studio. Bravo Roland!

Your website is your calling card. It gives visitors their first impression of what the experience will be like to do business with you. It’s a reflection of you.

So, does your website…

Look professional and inviting?
Or does it make people cringe because it’s obvious that you built it yourself?

Make you look successful and highly professional?
Or like someone who is inexperienced and operating on a shoestring?

Make you look like you’re creative, and on the pulse of what’s happening in your industry?
Or more like someone who barely has a pulse?

Convey that you are passionate about sharing your knowledgeable and expertise?
Or does it look like you’re simply going through the motions?

What does YOUR website say about you?
